Anker Micron-sized gold particles to treat skin inflammation.
DermaGold is working to develop a clinical proof of concept for the use of micron-sized gold particles to treat skin inflammation. It builds upon the discovery that these particles work as a local, non-toxic immune suppressor.
Systemic treatment with drugs containing metallic gold, the so-called ‘gold cure’, has been used throughout history to treat articular rheumatism joint pain and various dermatological problems. However, side-effects such as kidney damage have gradually reduced usage.
New research, however, has shown that gold ions are liberated from gold implants by phagocytotic cells. This discovery provides a scientific basis for the idea that metallic gold can be used as a safe ‘local gold cure’.
The project
The study will investigate the treatments anti-inflammatory effects on common skin provocations.
